News will also be posted regularily on the following...Trainz Forums, British Trainz and UK Train Sim

As a member of the Trainz Simulator community I have felt for a long time that there was a considerable gap in routes being built across the irish Sea an area that seemed to be generally ignored. There is one based on the northern routes out of Belfast set back in steam days when the railways there were more extensive. However my project is the Ulster rail scene as it is today and is far bigger and based on the present day.

Trainz is an excellent simulator and if you are like me and an ordinary Joe with little techy knowledge then you wil find this sim far easier for building than Microsfot Train Sim. I don't live over there, I live in Glasgow so cannot just pop along and check something but I hope my perception will be fun and interesting for Trainz fans. Ulster got a raw deal with some of the most savage rail cutbacks of years ago in the UK. When the UTA was set up in nationalisation days the management was over managed by bus people and orientated that way. Within a few months they destroyed the majority mileage which fell from nearly around 900 miles to not much over 215. By the time the railway was passed to NIR it could only try for years to hold on to what was left. It has done an excellent job in modernising and improving. Passenger numbers are greatly up. New trains, better times led to it being the best train operator recently.

Each Line listed to the left has it's own page and will have a slideshow as it is completed. When the whole thing is done I will put it on the Trainz Download Station which the company maintains for the benefit of Trainz members who can build routes, buildings, rolling stock, etc and have them available for evryone else. In this project, I have put in roads as they are in real life and that includes the streets and layout of villages and indeed towns. Just about every farm near a line is there along with lanes and the farmer crossings too.

Having done the 6 lines left in Ulster I have now extended over the Border into Eire to continue the route to Dublin Connolly and the "Enterprise Express" from Belfast and have done threequarters of that so far along with the Howth Branch off it north of Dublin. I have still to decide whether to include the branch off at Drogheda as passenger services were closed and freight only. There are a limited number of trains in both NIR and IR liveries (along with DART) on the Download Station now.
